What we do depends on what Wivenhoe residents ask of us- if we can help we will. No job is too small!

Hundreds of residents have been helped or advised with over a thousand different jobs since Wivenhoe Helping Hands started up in 2010. Jobs have ranged from putting out the bin and posting a letter, to accompanying residents to local hospital and medical centre appointments.

We will pick up an emergency prescription, accompany you on a hospital visit or to a local shop, read your post to you, write letters for you,sit with you while your carer takes a break, turn your mattress, walk your dog or anything else you need. Ring us and ask, we will help if we can.

People are often reluctant to 'bother' others with requests that seem trivial but if you are housebound and have run out of milk, a volunteer really wouldn't feel put upon by a phone call asking them to pop to the shop so you can have a cuppa.

We've come to be with people who were anxious about visits from salesmen; we've tuned televisions; caught a crow that had fallen down the chimney...

The telephone number 07834452764 will be answered by a phone holder or you can leave a message. If there is a volunteer available and the job can be done, it will be done.
Ideally we need at least 48 hours notice which gives us time hopefully to find a volunteer.
We even have wheelchairs that we can loan to you for a short period of time.
